Paris. Our 12 Fave NEW discoveries!

PETITE PARIS
DISCOVERED!

1. PATISSERIE: Stohrer

Not a 'NEW' find since this is the oldest patisserie in Paris, but an amazing Patisserie it is, delicious and the birth place of the renown Baba au Rhum - a small yeast cake saturated in rum and filled with whipped cream or pastry cream. Stohrer is a must when strolling down the famous foodie strip rue Montorgueil.

2. TEAROOM: La Charlotte de Isle

A gorgeous, quaint little bit of heaven on the Isl St Louis. The most incredible hot chocolate, served in gorgeous Japanese tea sets. It is now our BEST Hot Choc in Paris. Add cakes, sweet and savory and other delights and this tearoom is simply divine. Lovely setting and even better it is over looked by all the tourists.
Address: 24 rue Saint-Louis en l'Isle 75004

3. COFFEE: Ten Belles

Ten Belles cafe is one of the new best coffee spots in Paris. Good coffee, plus good food, good staff, good music, good ambience - this is my new coffee nook. A great casual stop in, or hang around for awhile, it's all good!

4. RESTAURANTS: La Gabin

I recently discovered this small, family-run, romantic restaurant in an unassuming street at the back of the Sacre Coeur Basilica in Montmartre. Any weary visitor who has just braved the bustle at the Basilica and prefers to shy away from the chaos of the ‘Place du Tertre’ for dinner, will breath a sigh of warm relief at this intimate, non touristy, welcoming haven. Classic French fare is on the menu and it’s delicious and inexpensive. The fixed price menu for 20euro will have you feasting on a lovingly prepared appetizer, main course and wine or dessert.

Enjoy a delicious breakfast and special BRUNCH menu on Sundays at this Organic cafe/restaurant also open for lunch, dinner and aperitif hour - organic cocktails anyone?! It has a chic cool interior, couches so comfy you'd get lost in them, friendly wait staff good people watching! I ordered the Big brunch with was a 3 course bread basket (lots of breads), boiled egg, pancake, yogurt, orange juice, tea, fruit salad, assortment of cakes FEAST!

6. SHOPPING: Boutique Noir

7. CINEMA: Studio 28

Serious about learning French? This is an arty independent Cinema located in Montmartre playing all the latest FRENCH ONLY flicks - no English! If your staying in Paris for an extended period and want to jump into all cultural delights and if you just want to be a regular Parisian then 'Go to the Movies'. Its cosy here and there is a little cafe attached for tea and cakes.

8. BAR/RESTAURANT: Le Fumoir

Le Fumoir; classic cocktails have never looked so good. Shaken, stirred and poured to perfection with speed and a smile. I love the discreet, dark, traditional brasserie atmosphere of this local ‘secret’ institution, which considering it’s location close to the Louvre, should make it a tourist trap and over-priced, but it’s neither. Frequented largely by locals and in-the-know visitors it’s a wonderfully chic and intimate spot to wine and/or dine and a perfect place to drop in pre or post museum or shows. Lines for a spot at the bar or a table start to build up from 5pm, but its fast moving; the service is exceptional here.

9. NIGHTCLUB: Silencio

The Silencio is a restaurant, a bar, a concert hall, an art library and a private screening room. The latest thing on the Paris night scene frequently hosts up-and-coming bands, screens films and invites some of the hottest DJs from around Europe. The music is a mix of old and new school, with some exciting surprises thrown in when you're least expecting. Large selection of cocktails mixed by some of Paris' best mixologists and delicious finger food and bar snacks on a rotating menu. The door entry - tough!

10. MARKET: Marche des Enfants Rouges

The oldest undercover food market in Paris (1615). A small yet vibrant and authentic market loved by locals. Many of the stands sell fresh prepared food you can eat in the cafes inside. I love the bouquets of vibrant flowers, the wide selection of obscure wines, bounties of organic pumpkins, tomatoes, cauliflower, and other richly colored fruits and vegetables, fresh seafood, meat, cheeses and charcuterie. I recommend the Creole cafe, the homemade hamburger stall (locals favourite) and the Turkish delights.

11. CULTURE: St Chapelle

Music Recital at La Saint Chapelle, A highlight for any visitor to Paris is assuredly a visit to one of the spectacular concert recitals at La Sainte Chapelle for some therapeutic musical reflections amidst the rumblings of the city.  This gothic architectural jewel is located on the Isl. de la Cite and holds over 100 concerts March to December; featuring works of the classical music repertoire. You cannot find anywhere the warm atmosphere in the St. Chapelle Church.  Concerts daily start at 7pm and 8.30pm - I recommended arriving 45 minutes prior.

12. MUSEUM: Petit Palais

This may be called the Petit Palais (small museum) but there's nothing 'Petit' about it. It's grand and beautiful and holds some amazing Exhibitions throughout the year as well as the permanent collection. I recently saw the exhibition: 'Dieu' (God) which was simply incredible. There is also a library/cafe and a stunning garden terrace to sit and enjoy. It is worthwhile checking the website to see whats on when you're in town. a beautiful Paris experience.
